Atlas Public Policy is looking for a qualified Data Associate to join our industry-leading policy tech startup. Atlas works with government, non-profits, and industry to demonstrate the value of using new technology to more quickly gain insights and help answer a fundamental question on the minds of everyone in policy: “what’s working?”

The right candidate will be sharp, ambitious, passionate, and capable of adapting to the evolving demands at Atlas. This position can be based in San Francisco, CA or Washington, DC.

Atlas’s data analysis team works in the climate and disinformation policy spaces with customers at public agencies from all levels of government, leading advocates and researchers in the non-profit sector, and top companies working on clean energy technology. Our work includes cutting edge research and development on critical policy issues, products that equip stakeholders with actionable information on clean energy markets and disinformation, and strategic advising to key leaders in the climate space.

Atlas began in 2015 and has grown with increasing demand from our core set of public interest-focused customers. We engage all our staff in internal strategy development, and believe in work-life balance, career development, and cohesive team-oriented work.

The Work

  • Bring advanced analytics software to a non-technical audience.
  • Build the whole data pipeline, from ingesting from a variety of sources, to parsing, aggregating, and transforming, to designing intuitive web-based dashboards.
  • Expand our use of data analytics software in our products, like Hamilton, EV Hub, and Buildings Hub.
  • Assist with building complex analytical tools using Microsoft Excel like our Dashboard for Rapid Vehicle Electrification.
  • Advise staff on original research and sophisticated data analyses.
  • Advance Atlas’s mission by expanding our reach in existing sectors and developing relationships in new areas of public policy.
  • Participate in and present at meetings with clients and other organizations actively working with Atlas.
  • Pitch in at all levels to assist staff as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a computer science, data science, computer engineering, or similar degree;
  • 1-2 years of experience with scripting languages such as Power Query/M, R, or Python;
  • 1-2 years of experience with WordPress or similar content management system;
  • 1-2 years of work experience in programming, data science, or quantitative research preferred;
  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI or similar data visualization/dashboarding software (Tableau or Qlik);
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong communication skills;
  • Strong interest in realizing Atlas’s mission;
  • Ambitious, self-directed, but knows when to pause and seek assistance; and
  • U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States or other U.S. work authorization (please specify details in your application. Atlas does not offer sponsorship for permanent residency).
