Atlas is excited to announce the release of the sixth annual "Transportation Electrification in the Southeast" report in collaboration with the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE). This year's report dives into progress made on transportation electrification goals by six state in the Southeast: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Amidst an evolving federal regulatory landscape, implementation of new tariff structures, and tax credit phase outs under the Inflation Reduction Act taking place in 2025, the Southeast continued to make progress on transportation electrification goals in manufacturing investments, new EV sales, and charging deployment.
The report examines data from July 2024 through June 2025. Several highlights to note include:
  • Continued massive growth in EV and battery manufacturing-related investments and jobs in the region, amassing nearly $80 billion in private sector investments (37% of the national total), and an anticipated 75,000 jobs created (33% of the national total).  States are seeing two types of manufacturing developments – large facilities that have progressed construction and production, and cancellations of planned facilities.
  • New passenger EV sales rose 38% from last year and market share climbed to 8.3%, with Florida surpassing the national passenger EV market share average with a 12-month market share of 10.3%.
    • Commercial EV sales also reached a new peak in Q2 2025, as delivery vans and other medium-duty fleet vehicles continue to electrify.
  • Progress continues in installing public fast chargers (known as direct current fast chargers or DCFC) with the region adding over 2,600 new DCFC ports in the past 12 months, a 41% increase year-over-year.
  • Under the Biden Administration, federal funding for transportation electrification rose 25 percent to $2.2 billion in awarded and allocated funds for charging network expansions, electric bus deployments, and replacing old gas and diesel fleet vehicles with electric options.
