The fifth annual “Transportation Electrification in the Southeast” report, prepared by Atlas Public Policy in partnership with Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE), analyzes the data underlying the electric vehicle (EV) market in SACE’s six-state region from July 2023 to June 2024. The data reveals a continuation of growth trends across six indicators: manufacturing investments, anticipated jobs, EV sales, charging infrastructure deployment, utility investments, and public funding.
Highlights from the fifth annual “Transportation Electrification in the Southeast” report include:
- The Southeast is leading the nation in EV and battery-related jobs and private sector investments, with four of the nation’s top eight EV manufacturing investment states in our region.
- EV sales in the Southeast grew 42%, defying concerns that consumer interest is waning, and regional charging station deployment is on the rise.
- Manufacturing tax incentives from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to strengthen supply chains and create jobs have spurred private sector investments, enticing companies such as Ford, Toyota, Hyundai, Scout Motors, LG Energy, SK Battery and their suppliers to establish EV and battery operations in the Southeast.
- The region is developing a skilled workforce through specialized training programs and community partnerships to meet the demands of EV manufacturing.
- This report includes a new section tracking the electrification of commercial diesel-powered medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, including electric school and transit buses, delivery vans, garbage trucks, and tractor-trailers.
